Inspection and preparation of surfaces
We inspect each item to assess the MDF grade, edge condition, moisture content and any pre-existing issues. Different MDF grades (standard, moisture-resistant, fire-rated) may require different primer systems.
Sanding and priming where required
MDF surfaces and edges are sanded smooth, then sealed with a dedicated MDF primer. Priming is essential — it seals the porous MDF surface, prevents moisture absorption and provides a stable base for the finish coats. Edges receive additional attention because MDF end-grain absorbs primer at a higher rate.
Spray application of finish
The finish coat (paint or lacquer) is spray-applied in our controlled environment. Spray application produces a far smoother and more consistent finish than brush or roller, with no marks, drips or texture variation. Multiple coats may be applied depending on the specified finish and opacity.
Drying and curing
Items are dried under controlled conditions. Unlike powder coating which cures at 180–200°C, MDF spray finishes cure at lower temperatures or air-dry, because MDF cannot withstand high oven temperatures without warping or delaminating.

What materials can you spray finish?

How long does MDF spray finishing take?

How is MDF spray finishing different from powder coating?
Powder coating is a dry process that cures at 180–200°C in an oven — temperatures that would warp and delaminate MDF. MDF spray finishing uses liquid paint or lacquer applied at room temperature and dried at low heat or ambient conditions. Both produce durable, professional finishes, but they are designed for different materials — powder coating for metal, spray finishing for wood and MDF.
