High-quality powder coating for architectural metalwork, aluminium and design-led projects across Harlow, Hertfordshire, Essex and London.
Architectural powder coating is a finishing process used to protect and enhance metal components in buildings and design-led developments. It provides a durable, weather-resistant coating where visual consistency matters as much as protection.
Spraytech provides architectural powder coating from two facilities in Bishop’s Stortford. We operate six ovens with up to 10 metres of capacity, handling both one-off components and high-volume production runs. We also offer industrial powder coating and domestic powder coating from the same facilities.
We coat both mild steel and aluminium, applying the correct pre-treatment for each material.
Architectural powder coating is specified by professionals across the construction and design supply chain. We work directly with:
who specify colour, texture and finish type as part of the design intent. We match any RAL, BS or NCS colour and provide sample panels for sign-off.
who define coating thickness, adhesion and corrosion resistance requirements. We coat to Qualicoat-equivalent standards and provide test certificates.
who fabricate balustrades, staircases, screens and structural elements and need consistent quality and colour accuracy across batches.
who need powder coating delivered to programme, coated to specification, wrapped and ready to install on site without delays.
We coat to the specification, not around it. When a project requires a specific coating system, film thickness, adhesion standard or corrosion resistance classification, we apply exactly what has been specified.
Architectural projects often require components to be delivered across multiple phases. We maintain strict colour control processes so that components coated in month one match components coated in month six.
Our six ovens across two Bishop’s Stortford sites give us up to 10 metres of oven length. This means we can handle long structural sections, large cladding panels and high-volume production runs without splitting items across multiple curing cycles.
For standard architectural work, our average turnaround is 48 hours from receipt of cleaned, prepared components. For larger programmes, we work to an agreed schedule that aligns with your site programme and delivery windows.
We have provided architectural powder coating for projects including Embassy Gardens in Nine Elms, London and Stansted Airport terminal expansion work.
Our architectural powder coating provides:
Our process is designed to maintain consistency and meet specification requirements at every stage:
We review the project drawings, finish schedules and specification documents to confirm the coating system, colour references, film thickness requirements and any performance standards that must be met.
Surface preparation and cleaning
Items are cleaned, de-greased and old paint or rust is removed to create a clean surface for the coating to bond to.
Shot blasting if required
For heavily rusted or previously painted items, shot blasting strips the surface back to bare metal for the strongest possible adhesion.
Powder coating application
Components are cured in our ovens at a temperature and duration profile matched to the powder manufacturer’s specification. Curing is monitored to ensure the coating achieves full cross-linking, which determines its hardness, adhesion, flexibility and chemical resistance.
Final inspection to ensure consistency and quality
Every coated component is inspected before dispatch. We check for film thickness (using a digital coating thickness gauge), adhesion, surface finish quality, colour accuracy and freedom from defects. Components that do not meet the required standard are recoated before release.

Architectural powder coating is a dry finishing process used to coat metal components in buildings and construction projects. A fine powder is applied electrostatically to the metal surface and then cured in an oven at around 180–200°C, forming a hard, durable and weather-resistant finish. It is commonly used on balustrades, cladding panels, window frames, curtain walling and structural steelwork where both appearance and long-term performance are important.
Yes, we can work to specified colours and finish requirements for architectural projects.
Standard polyester coatings are suitable for most external environments but may degrade more quickly in coastal or marine conditions due to salt spray exposure. For projects within 5 kilometres of the coast, we recommend marine-grade coating systems that include zinc-rich primers, enhanced pre-treatment and multi-coat applications to provide additional corrosion protection.
Yes, we regularly work with architects, designers and project teams on specification-led projects.
Yes, we have experience supporting large-scale commercial and residential developments.
The cost of architectural powder coating depends on the number and size of components, the coating system specified, the level of surface preparation required and the turnaround time. We provide project-specific quotes based on drawings, specifications or sample components. Contact us with your project details for a fast, competitive quote.
